Cricket Or Fun? Why There Is No Umpire In The Australia vs Scotland T20I Series

In the second T20I between Australia and Scotland played at the Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh, Australia had already won the first match by seven wickets. The overcast weather in Edinburgh set the mood for the second game. However, what drew the attention of the visitors is there is no third umpire for this entire series.

During the game, it became clear that there was no third umpire for the series when a close stumping decision against Jake Fraser-McGurk wasn’t reviewed.

Fans expressed their concerns on social media, speculating that Scotland might have skipped having a third umpire and using technologies like DRS to save costs. There has been no official statement from either Scotland Cricket or Cricket Australia about this, but it seems the decision not to use a third umpire and related technologies might be due to the limited facilities at the club ground.

After beating Scotland by 7 wickets on Wednesday, September 4, Australia played again at the Grange Club on Friday, September 6 and won the game and the series with the superb hundred of Josh Inglish.

Iain McDonald and Ryan Milne were the two on-field umpires for the second game. Richie Richardson is the Match Referee and David McLean was designated as the reserve umpire.
