The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction is expected to take place at the end of November or early December, according to BCCI sources on Wednesday. They also mentioned that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will announce the rules and regulations for the auction very shortly.

Over the past decade, the Indian Premier League has conducted two major auctions, that too in a gap of four years. The first significant auction occurred in 2014 and the second one in 2018. In 2018, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals also made their comeback to this cash-rich league after years of suspension.

A close source of the BCCI had a conversation with IANS and he stated that the auction is likely to be held at the end of November or the first week of December. The official said, “IPL 2025 auction will take place in November end or early December this year. Rules of it will be out in a couple of days.”

The 2021 mega auction was delayed by a year because of the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, teams extended their players’ contracts by one year.

During the 2022 mega auction, IPL teams were allowed to retain up to four players. As the current three-year cycle nears its end, franchises have different views on the ideal number of players to retain. Some teams are pushing for a higher retention limit, potentially up to eight players.
