The Border-Gavaskar trophy is almost more than a month to be played but the excitement among fans and players seems to be the same. The series will be started in November and all eyes will be on star spinners from both the teams – Nathan Lyon and Ravichandran Ashwin.
Both the spinners have played an important part in their team’s success in some past years. Both are the key players of their team and Lyon is excited to have a tough competition against Indian R Ashwin.
As both players approach the end of their careers, Lyon has reflected on their strong but respectful rivalry. While talking to Star Sports, Lyon said, “I know Ashwin, and we debuted around similar times. We’ve competed against each other in a number of series now, and between me and Ashwin, I have nothing but respect for him.”
Off the field, the two players get along well. Ashwin even joked about having home-and-away matches with Lyon after their international careers ended. Lyon has often praised Ashwin and claimed him to be one of the role models who improved his game.
Lyon added,” I feel like I love watching him bowl, he’s an absolute master in the craft of off-spin bowling and it’s been an absolute privilege to play against him and learn from him.”
Lyon will play a key role in Australia’s Border-Gavaskar series. Since the series is being held in Australia, the World Test Champions are eager to win the trophy. Australia has failed to beat India in their own country in the last ten years.
