Babar Azam To Be Removed From White-ball Captaincy, This Cricketer To Take His Place

Pakistan’s performance in international cricket has been disappointing across all three formats, with Babar Azam facing criticism for both his mediocre batting and average captaincy in white-ball cricket.

GEO TV reports that the Pakistan Cricket Board is likely to remove Babar Azam as captain and replace him with the wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan. Rizwan is expected to lead the team in one-day internationals and T20 cricket at first.

The PCB has revealed five teams for the upcoming tournament and announced Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Haris, and Saud Shakeel as the captains of their teams.

Sources have revealed that Babar Azam will be replaced as Pakistan’s captain later this year. The new captain will be appointed before the tour of Australia in November. Head coach Gary Kirsten discussed this with cricket board officials back in July.

Rizwan’s name is likely to come up for consideration as captain, and if all officials agree he could be named captain in all formats down the line. Babar Azam had stepped down after the 2023 ODI World Cup in India but again got back the captaincy ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA.
