Star Indian off-spinner R Ashwin has now opened up on the relationship with the current Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir. Ashwin expressed his deep respect for the former opening batsman. Not to forget both these players have shared the dressing for a long time. They both were also part of the 2011 ODI World Cup victorious campaign.
Gautam Gambhir took over from Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Indian cricket team after the T20 World Cup. In his first assignment, he led India to a T20I series win against Sri Lanka but also experienced a rare ODI series defeat to the same team.
Gambhir will face tougher challenges ahead as India has 10 Test matches left in the current World Test Championship cycle.
While talking to the News Agency PTI, R Ashwin said, “Gautam is someone I still share a very, very good relationship with because he is a very straightforward and honest guy. I think Gautam is also one of those guys that we should always be backing. He’s a hero of Indian cricket.”
Ashwin will be important for India’s Test season. Bangladesh will come to India in September-October for two Test matches and three T20Is. Following this, India will play a three-Test series against New Zealand, beginning on October 16.
