On Friday morning, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir visited the Maa Pitambara Temple in Datia to offer prayers during the second day of Shardiya Navratri.
He visited the temple ahead of the 1st T20I match between India and Bangladesh, set to be held at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior. This marks the first international game in Gwalior after a 14-year break.
Gambhir, dressed in traditional clothing, offered his prayers and received blessings from the deity, with temple officials honoring him during the visit.
Navratri, which translates to ‘nine nights’ in Sanskrit, is a festival that honors Goddess Durga and her nine manifestations, collectively called Navdurga.
While Hindus observe four Navratris annually, only two—Chaitra Navratri and Shardiya Navratri—are widely celebrated because they correspond with the changing seasons.

Gambhir recently joined the Indian Test team, led by Rohit Sharma, for the two-Test series against Bangladesh, where the Men in Blue secured impressive victories to win the series.
After India’s strong performance in the Test matches under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, the team, now captained by Suryakumar Yadav, is looking to achieve similar success in the upcoming T20Is. All-rounder Hardik Pandya is also part of the squad for this series, and Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma have been chosen as the wicketkeeper-batters for the matches against Bangladesh.
