The budding cricketer and brother of Indian Test player Sarfaraz Khan will sadly miss the upcoming Irani Cup 2024 match between Mumbai and the Rest of India in Lucknow, scheduled for October 1 to 5. Reportedly, the batter has suffered a fracture in a road accident.
As reported by the Times of India on Saturday, the 19-year-old right-handed batter made a century for Ajinkya Rahane’s Mumbai in the final of the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy against Vidarbha, sustained an injury while traveling from Kanpur to Lucknow with his father and coach, Naushad Khan, for the Irani Cup match.
His absence is a major loss for Mumbai, as he will not only miss the Irani Cup but also the first few matches of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy.
“He didn’t travel with the Mumbai team to Lucknow for the Irani Cup. He was probably travelling from Azamgarh with his father to Lucknow when the accident happened,” a source told TOI.
Musheer made a remarkable impact by scoring a double century for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 quarterfinal against Baroda and 181 runs in the recent Duleep Trophy 2024 match for India B. He was about to be selected for the India A team for three four-day matches against Australia. However, his selection is now uncertain due to his injury. He can only be considered if he recovers in time, and it’s unclear how long that will take.
