Jofra Archer Not Playing In IPL 2025, ECB Reveals Reason

England fast bowler Jofra Archer is not in the list of 574 players for the IPL 2025 mega auction. The auction will happen in Jeddah on November 24 and 25. Archer had played for Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians in the IPL and it was a surprise when fans did not find the name of Archer in the auction’s list. According to Cricbuzz, the 29-year-old is not on the list because he won’t be available to play in the 2025 season.

Why Jofra Archer Not Playing In IPL 2025?

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) wants Jofra Archer to stay fit for next year’s summer Test matches. England will play five Test matches against India next year. The first match will be in Leeds from June 20. The other games will be in Birmingham (July 2-6), Lord’s (July 10-14), Manchester (July 23-27), and The Oval (July 31-August 4).

Injury Concern For Jofra Archer

Jofra Archer missed the IPL in 2022 and 2024 because of injury concerns. He played for Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2023 but appeared in only a few matches before getting injured again.

Archer made his IPL debut in 2018 with the Rajasthan Royals and joined MI during the 2022 mega auction. He has played 40 IPL matches where he got 48 wickets and scored 199 runs. His best season was in 2020, held in the UAE.

Archer played 14 matches in IPL 2020 and clinched 20 wickets, and won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the season.

Archer has played 13 Tests, 27 ODIs, and 28 T20Is for England since his debut in an ODI against Ireland on May 3, 2019. He was a key player in England’s 2019 ODI World Cup win. In the final, he bowled the super over and successfully defended 16 runs which helped the team to win the tournament.
