T20 World Cup: How Pakistan Lost To USA? Babar Azam Comes With A Surprising Reason

The skipper of the Pakistan Cricket Team, Babar Azam admitted that the team didn’t perform well against the USA in their Group A match of the T20 World Cup 2024. On Thursday, June 6, Babar and his team lost to the co-hosts at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. The match was very close and went to a Super Over, where Pakistan crumbled under pressure.

Pakistan batted first and scored a decent 159 for 7, with Babar Azam scoring 44, Shadab Khan 40, and Shaheen Shah Afridi 23. Haris Rauf couldn’t defend 15 runs in the last over. In the Super Over, Mohammad Amir lost control and gave up 18 runs, leading to Pakistan’s defeat.

Babar said Pakistan didn’t perform well in the powerplay and their spinners failing to take wickets in the middle overs hurt them significantly. However, he also praised the USA for their strong efforts.

While talking to broadcasters after the match, Babar Azam said, “First 6 overs while batting we didn’t capitalise. Back to back wickets always put you on the back foot, as a batter you need to step up and build partnerships. We were not up to the mark in the first 6 overs with the ball. Our spinners also did not take wickets in the middle overs so these things cost us.”

“Very hard, all credit to USA; they played better than us in all three departments. A little bit of moisture in the pitch, it was also two-paced. As a professional, you need to assess the conditions,” Babar added.
