After Team India lost the series against New Zealand by 0-3, team India’s captain Rohit Sharma has given his statement on Gautam Gambhir and his support staff. Sharma mentioned that the coaching staff is still learning how the team operates and is trying to form good relationships with the players.
Gautam Gambhir’s time as India’s head coach has been tough. The recent 3-0 defeat to New Zealand is a big problem for both the team and the coaching staff.
India’s home Test series loss to New Zealand was a big letdown. The team struggled in all parts of the game, especially in batting, which was very poor. Indian batsmen, including captain Rohit Sharma, had trouble facing the New Zealand spinners. This was the first time since 2012 that India lost every match in a home Test series.
He further said, “Yes, the coaching staff have been good. They have just come in. It’s not been a lot of time for them. They are also understanding how this team operates, and how the player operates. This is the first Test series loss in the two-Test series that they have been in.”
“Look, it’s the players’ responsibility to do their job or make their life easier because it’s never easy for anyone to come in and start doing what they are doing, you know because there are a lot of different individuals here, and they operate slightly differently,” he further said.
Rohit said it is important for players to match their thinking with the strategies of the coaching staff. He admitted that the team hasn’t done well in this area. The star player also pointed out that Gautam Gambhir and his coaching staff are still new in their roles and shouldn’t be judged too soon.
Rohit Sharma concluded, “So, it’s important for the players to make sure that they know what they are, what the thought process is of the coaching staff to align on those thought processes and, you know, take it forward. Like I said, it’s been only four or five months now, too early to judge anything, but they have been good with the players.”
