“Not getting the nod from selectors and having..”Brian Lara’s ‘sulk-up’ remark on Rohit Sharma

There are few stories in cricket quite like star batsman Rohit Sharma, whose career has been full of ups and downs, disappointments and triumphs. Rohit’s narration has created a sensation over the last few months, leaving fans and pundits alike in awe of his patience and intelligence.

However, despite this, Rohit’s performance did not decrease. He hit two centuries in five Test matches against England in January and March and currently sits sixth on the run-scorers list in this year’s IPL. Moreover, the 36-year-old hit a century by scoring 105 in 63 deliveries in Mumbai Indians’ last match against Chennai Super Kings.

Former West Indies captain and cricketer Brian Lara was impressed with Rohit’s career and spoke at length about the MI star on Star Sports. Answering fans’ questions about Rohit’s unique qualities as a star batsman, Lara praised his ability to put aside controversies and stress and focus on batting.

“When you look at Rohit Sharma, you feel that he connects to the public very well. He had a tough upbringing, he came out and pretty much spent his entire life playing for India; sometimes, not getting the nod from selectors and having to work his way back. When you have an image and stature of Rohit Sharma, sometimes, some people don’t take the knock down really well. But what’s admirable with him is his ability to put everything aside, and put India first, and put Mumbai Indians first, and play cricket the way it should be,” said Lara.

Lala’s remarks could be a reference to Rohit’s omission from the India squad for the 2011 World Cup and also his late inclusion in the Indian Test team. It was only in 2019 that Rohit cemented his place as the opener in the last match.
