Not From Chennai Super Kings, But Deepak Chahar Wants To Play From This Team

IPL 2025 mega auction is just around the corner, CSK fans are getting increasingly curious about Deepak Chahar. CSK did not retain him this time, but Chahar is still hopeful that the franchise will do its best to get him back as it did in the last auction.

Since joining CSK in 2018, Chahar has been an integral player for the franchise. His last season was interrupted by a groin injury after eight matches were played. CSK has already retained five big names ahead of this year’s auction, including captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Matheesha Pathirana, Shivam Dube, and the legendary MS Dhoni.

The five-time IPL champion, CSK, opted to retain the Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana instead of Chahar. However, Chahar is optimistic that CSK will chase him in the forthcoming auction. He recalls how CSK shocked everyone with a huge bid of INR 14 crore to re-sign him at the 2022 auction after initially not retaining him.

As a 32-year-old bowler, he goes back into the auction with the confidence that teams would be interested in his Powerplay skills, especially since they have been chasing such high totals lately.

Chahar shared his thoughts when speaking with the Times of India: “Last time, CSK didn’t retain me also, but they spent big to buy me back. I don’t know how it will be this year, but I am sure that my skills would be valued even more now because teams are scoring nearly 90-100 runs in Powerplays these days and scores above 200 are becoming so common.

I’ve proved my worth in reducing the run-scoring rate during that phase.”
He concluded his statement of hopes by saying, “I think they’ll bid for me again. I’d love to wear the yellow jersey once again, but if not, I hope Rajasthan Royals will bid for me.”
