IPL 2025: ‘I Have No Idea About It, We Have Not Requested It’, CSK CEO Kashi Vishwanathan Huge Statement On MS Dhoni’s Future

IPL 2025 is almost eight months away. However, the speculation regarding MS Dhoni’s future has started once again. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanath has denied reports that the team asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to bring back an old rule to sign MS Dhoni for a lower price. In the past, an international player could be considered ‘uncapped’ five years after retiring, but this rule does not exist after IPL 2024.

There were reports that CSK wanted the previous rule reinstated so they could list Dhoni as an ‘uncapped’ player and sign him for as little as Rs 4 crore. In 2022, the franchise had paid Rs 12 crore to retain Dhoni. However, CSK CEO Viswanath has denied these claims, stating that the team did not make such a request.

While speaking to Times Of India, MS Dhoni said, “I’ve no idea about it. We’ve not requested it. They (the BCCI) have themselves told us that the ‘uncapped player rule’ may be kept, that’s all. They (the BCCI) haven’t announced anything as yet. The rules and regulations will be announced by the BCCI,” Kasi Viswanath told Times of India.”

With the IPL mega auction coming up in a few months, there is still uncertainty about Dhoni’s future in the tournament. The former Chennai Super Kings captain Dhoni has not spoken about whether he will play in IPL 2025. Moreover, with a mega auction before the next season, it could be challenging for the CSK franchise if they choose to include Dhoni as a player.

MS Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020 but he continued his IPL journey with Chennai Super Kings where he has won five titles under his belt.
