Former Pakistani dashing batting all-rounder Shoaib Akhtar has said that before the T20 World Cup 2024, he was offered the selector’s role for the Pakistan Cricket Board, which he refused due to certain reasons.
He felt it wouldn’t have been right because he was competing in tournaments with some of the current players playing for Pakistan.
“I was offered a selector’s role before the T20 World Cup 2024, but I said no to it as I was playing with some of the active Pakistan cricketers. I can’t select the players as it doesn’t make sense to me that I become a selector while being active as a cricketer,” he said.
The all-rounder said that he is only ready to play in the domestic tournaments.
“I am only open to playing in T20 cricket. I am ready to play in domestic T20 tournaments to help the upcoming cricketers.”
Shoaib Malik hasn’t retired from T20 cricket and still plays in franchise leagues around the world. However, he is not interested in representing Pakistan in T20 matches anymore.
“I don’t want to play for Pakistan. I have retired from Tests and ODIs. I have no interest in donning Pakistan’s jersey in T20Is. I will continue to compete in domestic cricket.”
“There are few tournaments in which I still play, but I have already informed some of the leagues that I won’t be available,” he said.
