India Will Not Qualify For WTC Final, They Can’t Win 4-0

Former Indian legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar talked about India’s chances of reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) final. After losing 3-0 to New Zealand at home, India is in danger of not making it to the final at Lord’s next year.

To make an easy entry into the final of the World Test Championship, India must win their next five-match series against Australia by 4-0. If they do this, India’s points percentage would go up to 65.79%, which is higher than New Zealand’s best possible score of 64.29%, even if New Zealand beats England 3-0 at home.

This would secure India a spot in the top two. If India does not win by 4-0, their chances will depend on other match results. Gavaskar pointed out how crucial this series is for India as they try to recover from their recent loss and aim to reach the WTC final.

Team India has won their last two Test series in Australia. In 2018/19, they achieved their first-ever Test series win there with a score of 2-1, and they did it again in the 2020/21 season with the same score.

However, Sunil Gavaskar believes that India won’t be able to win the upcoming series 4-0 in Australia. In an interview with India Today, the former captain said that while India could win the series 3-1, a 4-0 win seems very unlikely.

Gavaskar also stated that he doesn’t think India will qualify for the WTC final and suggested that the team should concentrate on winning the series in Australia.

“No, I don’t. I actually think that India cannot beat Australia 4-0 in the Test series. I’d be over the moon, if they do that. But 4-0? India can win 3-1, 4-0 is… I don’t want to talk about the World Test Championship Final.”

“Now just focus on trying to win the series in Australia. Never mind whether you win 1-0,2-0,3-0, 3-1,2-1. But go and win. Because that is how all of us Indian cricket fans are going to be back to feeling good again,” said Sunil Gavaskar.

The first match of the five-match Test series will start on November 22 in Perth.
