India’s wicket-keeper batter Wriddhiman Saha has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. He posted on social media that this season of the Ranji Trophy will be his last.
Saha turned 40 this month, and he has played 40 Test matches and nine One-Day Internationals for India. After MS Dhoni retired, Saha became the main wicketkeeper for Test matches. He has scored the second-most centuries by a wicketkeeper for India, just behind Dhoni and Rishabh Pant. During his career, Saha scored 1,353 runs in Test matches, including three centuries.
Three years ago, in 2021, Saha played his last Test match against New Zealand. He scored some important runs in that series, but the new team management, which included captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid, gradually replaced him with KS Bharat as Rishabh Pant’s backup.
While announcing his retirement from cricket, Saha wrote,” After a cherished journey in cricket, this season will be my last. I am honored to represent Bengal one final time, playing only in the Ranji Trophy before I retire. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this incredible ride, your support has meant the world. Let’s make this season one to remember.”
According to a report from Sportstar, Saha has not signed up for the upcoming super auction later this month, which makes it unlikely that he will play in the IPL next year. Although he hasn’t officially talked about this yet, sources say he may make a statement about it soon before the auction.
