India’s fast bowler Mohammed Shami has started serious training for the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season. He hasn’t played international cricket for almost a year because of injuries.

Now, at 34 years old, he’s back in the gym and practicing in the nets, working hard to get fit and get ready for domestic red-ball cricket.

Recently, Shami was not included in India’s squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 because the selectors felt he needed more time to get his bowling rhythm back. Instead, India has picked two less-experienced fast bowlers, Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana, for the team.

Shami shared a post on social media showing himself training hard in the gym with his trainer as he prepares to play domestic cricket.

Shami’s fitness is a big concern for India right now since he has been one of the team’s best bowlers along with Jasprit Bumrah. The fast bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami has been very effective for India, helping them win many matches in various formats.

A few days ago, Mohammed Shami was seen bowling in the nets. He didn’t look uncomfortable, but it is believed he wants to play at least two Ranji Trophy matches before returning to international cricket.

India has chosen five fast bowlers for the Tests against Australia – Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, and Harshit Rana.

Mohammed Shami last played in an international match during the ODI World Cup 2023 final in November 2023. Since then, he has been out of the team due to ongoing injury problems. The fast bowler had surgery on his Achilles heel earlier this year.
