On Friday, October 25, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the India T20 squad for the series against South Africa. The Indian team will play four T20I matches in South Africa in November, with Suryakumar Yadav as the captain.
In this series, the squad will be without fast bowler Mayank Yadav, all-rounder Shivam Dube, and young player Riyan Parag. Mayank and Dube are both injured, while Riyan Parag is at the BCCI Centre of Excellence to address a long-term issue with his right shoulder.
New additions to the squad include Ramandeep Singh and Vijaykumar Vyshak, who have been called up for the first time after their strong performances in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL).
While talking to Media, BCCI said, “Mayank Yadav and Shivam Dube were unavailable for selection owing to injuries.”
“Riyan Parag was unavailable for selection and is currently at the BCCI Centre of Excellence for long-term resolution of his chronic right shoulder injury,” the BCCI mentioned.
Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal won’t be playing in the upcoming four-match T20I series against South Africa. Instead, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson will open the batting. They also opened in the recent T20I series against Bangladesh and did well, with Samson even scoring a big century.
Other batsmen in the team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, include Rinku Singh and Tilak Varma. The team also has all-rounders Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and newcomer Ramandeep Singh. Ishan Kishan wasn’t picked again, and Jitesh Sharma is chosen as the backup wicket-keeper.
The T20I series will have matches on November 8, 10, 13, and 15. They will take place at four different places: Durban, Gqeberha, Centurion, and Johannesburg.
