As the IPL retention deadline comes closer, fans are eagerly waiting to see which top players will stay with their current teams. One of the biggest topics right now is Shreyas Iyer’s future with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. As we know, BCCI has asked all the teams to submit the list of their retained players by the evening of 31st October 2024.
Last season, Iyer led KKR to their third IPL title, ending a long trophy drought for the team. However, rumors suggest that KKR may not retain Iyer for the upcoming season, which would make him a big name in the auction. According to Sangbad Pratidin, two IPL teams, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are interested in signing the Maharashtra batter.
RCB may be searching for a new captain, with reports indicating that they could release Faf du Plessis after another season without a title. Fresh off his success with KKR, Iyer could be the leader RCB needs to support Virat Kohli and push the team forward.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings, who have faced several disappointing seasons, might be planning a big team overhaul. With Shikhar Dhawan retiring, Iyer could be a great fit for Punjab. His leadership and energy would be a valuable addition to the team, and Punjab could build a strong squad around him for the next few years.
If Iyer does leave KKR, reports say that KKR might go after Delhi Capitals’ captain Rishabh Pant, whose IPL future is also in question. Pant recently returned to the IPL after recovering from a serious car accident and scored 446 runs in IPL 2024.
