Rishabh Pant To Leave Delhi Capitals, RCB Looking To Buy: Report

In a surprising development, Rishabh Pant, the captain of Delhi Capitals, might enter the IPL 2025 mega auction. Pant has played his entire IPL career with Delhi Capitals but is reportedly no longer seen as the team’s captain. Major changes are happening within the franchise, including the departure of key management figures like Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly, so the squad can also undergo some major changes.

According to a report by the Times of India, Rishabh Pant is likely to be part of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Several teams are already showing interest, with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) being the frontrunner to secure Pant’s services. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are also reportedly interested in having Pant as their captain for the next IPL season.

This news comes as a surprise because just earlier this month, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal had hinted that the franchise was planning to retain Pant for the upcoming season. Jindal had expressed confidence in keeping some key players, including Rishabh Pant, for IPL 2025.

While talking to IANS, Parth Jindal said, “Yes, we definitely have to retain. We have some very good players in our team. The rules have just come out, so after discussing with GMR and our director of cricket, Sourav Ganguly, decisions will be made.”

He further added, “Rishabh Pant will definitely be retained. We also have Axar Patel, who is excellent, Tristan Stubbs, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Kuldeep Yadav, Abishek Porel, Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, all very good players in our team.”

While the news of Pant entering the auction contradicts Jindal’s earlier statements, the franchise has already started making significant changes. Recently, Delhi Capitals announced that Hemang Badani will be their new Head Coach (IPL), while Venugopal Rao has been appointed as the Director of Cricket (IPL).

If Rishabh Pant enters the IPL 2025 auction, it will be a big move, and several teams are expected to bid for the versatile wicketkeeper-batter.
