As the Indian Premier League (IPL) keeps changing, teams are always looking for players who can improve their chances of winning in the tournament. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have a strong history and along with Mumbai Indians, they are the only team who have won the trophies five times. 1. Glenn Maxwell
The Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is a powerful T20 player known for his aggressive batting. He is known for turning the game in his favor within a few overs. In the last two IPL seasons, he has been consistent where he has scored 513 runs in 2021, 301 in 2022, and 400 runs in 2023. However, in IPL 2024 Maxwell failed drastically and managed to score only 52 runs in the 10 games he played for the team. Chennai Super Kings can look to Maxwell due to his all-round ability. CSK is known to favour the all-rounders and for IPL 2025 they can drop the New Zealand Daryl Mitchell to get Maxwell in the team.
2. Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami has been the most consistent bowler in the last couple of years in the IPL. From 2019 to 2023, Shami has picked 19,20,19,20, and 28 wickets in each IPL season. He did not play in IPL 2024 due to injury concerns. Looking at these stats, If Gujarat Titans do not retain Shami, Chennai Super Kinsg will go behind this star bowler.
Shami is known for swinging the ball in the powerplay overs and he is also known for his lethal delivery in death overs. He will also bring a kind of experience in the team which will definitely help the youngsters.
3. Ravichandran Ashwin
The star Indian off-spinner currently plays for Rajasthan Royals. He is known for his tactical deliveries and handy batting when needed. Due to various types of deliveries in his arsenal, Ashwin provides the facility also to bowl in the powerplay overs. Ashwin is not known for picking up too many wickets in T20s, rather he is good at controlling the flow of runs. In IPL 2024, he got 9 nine wickets, in 2023 14 wickets, and 2022 12 wickets. He can also contribute at lower down the order in batting. Above all, R Ashwin started his cricket career with Chennai Super Kings and it will be a kind of great combination again to see Dhoni, Ashwin, and Jadeja playing together who understand each other’s game so well.
4. Jofra Archer
The devastating bowler of the England Cricket Team, Jofra Archer can make a quick place for him into the playing XI of Chennai Super Kings. Chennai Super Kings is one such team who always lacked sharp pacers like Jasprit Bumrah, Starc, Cummins etc. The additon of Archer in CSK will definitely provide an extra hand to the team along with Pathirana, if he retained back. Archer has played 40 matches in which he has bagged 48 wickets with an economy of 7.43 which is said to be a decent one in T20 format.
5. Will Jacks
Will Jacks is a budding spin all-rounder from England, who has been impressive across many T20 leagues he has played till now. He started his IPL career with Royal Challengers Bangalore where he got enough games to showcase his power-hitting abilities. For RCB, he played eight matches in IPL 2024 where he smashed 230 runs along with a hundred in his kitty. Jacks can also provide spin assistant to Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad in the middle-overs. If somewhere CSK misses the chance to buy Maxwell, Jacks could be an option to be dependent for.
