Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan gave an update on MS Dhoni’s participation in the 2025 IPL. He said that Dhoni told him he would confirm his availability by October 31st.
Many are unsure about MS Dhoni’s participation in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). There is no clear information yet on whether the keeper-batter will play for Chennai Super Kings next season. Everything will be clear once the teams announce their retained players list.
All franchises have time until 31st October to submit their list of released and retained players. BCCI recently announced the retention policy for the mega auction, and one rule is made especially for Dhoni, so he can play without affecting the team’s future.
The rule lets a team retain an Indian player in the uncapped category if they haven’t played international cricket for five years. Also, the player can’t be retained for more than INR 4 crore. This means Chennai Super Kings can now keep Dhoni as an uncapped player and still retain their top players.
Chennai Super Kings want MS Dhoni to play, but they are waiting for his confirmation. The CSK’s CEO, Kasi Viswanathan, said that Dhoni will soon confirm whether he will play, and they are hopeful he will.
While having a conversation with India Today, Kashi Vishwanathan said, “We also want Dhoni to play in the CSK team. But Dhoni has not confirmed it to us yet. Dhoni said, ‘I will tell you before October 31.’ We hope that he will play.”
According to a report from Times of India, Chennai Super Kings will retain MS Dhoni for INR 4 crore in the uncapped player category. Other likely retentions include Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, and Matheesha Pathirana.
