Star batter of England cricket team Joe Root became the highest run-scorer for England in Test cricket. Root scored his 35th Test century on the third day of the first Test against Pakistan in Multan.
Former England captain Alastair Cook, during commentary, suggested that Root could surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most Test runs ever.
When Joe Root reached 71 runs before lunch, he surpassed the previous record of 12,472 runs held by his former captain Alastair Cook, becoming England’s leading run-scorer in Test cricket and moving to fifth on the all-time list of highest Test run-scorers.
Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar holds the top spot with 15,921 Test runs, but Alastair Cook mentioned that Joe Root, at 33, still has many years ahead to potentially surpass that record.
“I can see him overhauling Sachin Tendulkar’s record,” Cook said while commentating on BBC radio.
“You could say Sachin is still the favourite but just.
“I don’t see that happening for Root to lose that hunger and ability to keep driving himself forward for the next couple of years.”
