Will Rohit Sharma become the next skipper of Royal Challengers Bangalore? Well, the former South African batter and one of the legends of RCB AB de Villiers has bashed the rumor of Rohit being the next skipper of RCB in IPL 2025.

Ab de Villiers said that there is no chance of Faf du Plessis leaving the captaincy of RCB. De Villiers believes there is almost no chance, around “zero or 0.1 percent,” that Rohit will join RCB for the 2025 IPL season. He is confident that Mumbai Indians will retain Rohit ahead of the mega auction, making a switch to a competing franchise like RCB highly unlikely.

“I almost laughed at the Rohit comment. That will be quite a story if Rohit moves from Mumbai Indians to RCB. Wow! Imagine the headlines. It will be bigger than Hardik Pandya’s move. He moved from Gujarat Titans back to Mumbai, which although wasn’t big a surprise. But if Rohit moves from Mumbai to join his rivals in RCB…oh my god! I don’t think there is an option there. I don’t see a possibility of MI leaving Rohit. I will give that zero or 0.1 per cent chance,” De Villiers said during a live Q&A session on YouTube.

De Villiers believes that 40-year-old Faf du Plessis is still fully capable of continuing as RCB’s captain, and he is confident that Virat Kohli will support him in this leadership role.

“Age is just a number, guys. I don’t see why his turning 40 would be an issue. He has been there for a few seasons, and the players are used to him. I understand there has been pressure on him because he hasn’t won the trophy for RCB, but he has been exceptional as a player. I think Virat will back him with all his experience,” he added.

Under Faf du Plessis’ leadership, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pulled off an incredible comeback in IPL 2024 and secured a spot in the playoffs with a thrilling victory against Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their final league match.

Since becoming captain of IPL 2022, Du Plessis has led the team to 21 wins out of 42 games. While RCB reached the playoffs in both IPL 2022 and IPL 2024 under his guidance, they were unable to advance to the final on either occasion.
