According to a close report, legendary Australian captain Ricky Ponting is set to be the new coach of Punjab Kings. Previously, he has served Delhi Capitals as the head coach where he had an average outing with the franchise.
Although there’s no official confirmation yet, Cricbuzz reports that both sides have had discussions and are close to finalizing an agreement.
Ricky Ponting Record In IPL
Ponting won the IPL as a player with Mumbai Indians in 2013 and then as a coach in 2015. He joined Delhi Capitals in 2018 and spent eight years with the franchise. Under his guidance, Delhi made its first IPL final in 2020 and also reached the playoffs in 2019 and 2021. However, the last two seasons were disappointing. DC finished ninth in 2023 and sixth in 2024.
Trevor Bayliss coached PBKS for the last two seasons, but his contract ended after the 2024 IPL. In 2023, PBKS also brought in former Indian all-rounder Sanjay Bangar as their new head of cricket development.
PBKS have never won an IPL title. They have just been the runner-up in the 2024 edition where they lost to KKR by three wickets.
