There’s a lot of buzz around India’s upcoming tour of Australia, mainly because they won the last two Test series there with a 2-1 scoreline. Now, they’re looking to win a third series in a row.
Australia knows this and is preparing to win back the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which India has held for a while. The two teams last faced each other in the ICC World Test Championship final, where Australia had the upper hand against men in blue.
India understands that beating Australia for the third time in a row on their home turf is easier said than done. They know that to achieve this goal, having a fit and in-form pace bowling attack is essential.
The Indian team management is preparing for the tour. For this they have kept Jasprit Bumrah on a break to ensure he’s fresh for the Test matches. However, they’ll also need the experience of Mohammed Shami, who hasn’t played any cricket since the 2023 ODI World Cup final.
Previously, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar mentioned that the 33-year-old might return for the Bangladesh Test series. However, it’s now reported that he will return to competitive cricket via Ranji Trophy.
While speaking to Times Of India, he said,“Our team is already well prepared. We have rested Jasprit Bumrah for a while now. Mohammad Shami is expected to be fit too. This is an experienced Indian side now. Seniors like Rohit and Kohli are fit.”
“Shami will be there (in Australia) because he is experienced, and we need him in Australia,” he added.
