Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shared his thoughts on the former CSK captain MS Dhoni potentially playing in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) as an uncapped player. This comes amid widespread speculation about Dhoni’s future in the IPL before the upcoming mega auction.
The IPL rulebook once had a provision stating that players who had been retired from international cricket for five years could be considered uncapped. However, this rule was removed in 2021. Since Dhoni retired on August 15, 2020, he doesn’t qualify as an uncapped player under this rule.
Ashwin mentioned that everyone will discuss it because it involves the legendary wicketkeeper.
“Will Dhoni play as an uncapped player? That’s a big question mark. The point is correct. He hasn’t played international cricket for many years. He has retired. So, he is an uncapped player. He is not a capped player,” Ashwin said on his official YouTube channel.
“Can a player like Dhoni play as an uncapped player? That is another conversation. If someone talks about Dhoni, everyone will talk about it,” he added.
MS Dhoni said goodbye to international cricket back in 2020 but he continued playing in the richest T20 league, IPL as the captain and now as the wicket-keeper batter.
