The five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are expected to retain their former captain MS Dhoni as an uncapped player. This decision came with a reinstatement of a 2008 IPL rule that allows Indian players who retired from international cricket for at least five years to be classified as uncapped in the auction. According to the new IPL rule, a franchise can retain up to 5 players and use one Right To Match(RTM) card to get back their desired player.

In addition to Dhoni, CSK is likely to retain important players like death-overs specialist Matheesha Pathirana and hard-hitting batsman Shivam Dube. Ravindra Jadeja, one of the finest all-rounders in the game, along with Rachin Ravindra and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, are also expected to stay with the team due to retention.

Not to forget BCCI has commanded all the IPL franchises to submit the name of their retained players by the evening of 31st October.
