The father of former Indian batting all-rounder Yograj Singh has criticized two former India captains, Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni. He has blamed Dhoni for ruining Yuvraj’s career and claimed that Yuvraj’s achievements are a kind of revenge against Kapil Dev.
Yograj Singh has a very poor relationship with Kapil Dev. Yograj has previously blamed Kapil Dev for not being included in the Indian team. Yograj played one Test match and six ODIs for India between 1980 and 1981.
In a recent interview with Zee Switch, Yograj Singh claimed that he promised himself to ensure Yuvraj’s career would be so remarkable that it would overshadow Kapil Dev in people’s memories.
“The greatest captain of our time, Kapil Dev… I told him, I’ll leave you in a position where the world would curse you. Today, Yuvraj Singh has 13 trophies, and you have only one, the World Cup. End of discussion,” Yograj said.
Yograj also accused Dhoni of destroying Yuvraj’s career during his captaincy. He said that Yuvraj could have continued playing international cricket for several more years if it hadn’t been for Dhoni’s decisions.
“I won’t forgive MS Dhoni. He should look at his face in the mirror. He is a very big cricketer, but what he has done against my son, everything is coming out now; it can never be forgiven in life,” Yograj said.
“That man has ruined my son’s life, who could have played for four to five more years. I challenge everyone to have a son like Yuvraj. Even Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag have said that there will never be another Yuvraj Singh.”
Yograj Singh also said that Yuvraj Singh should be given India’s highest civilian award – Bharat Ratna.
