Why Pakistan Drop Shaheen Afridi From The Test Against Bangladesh?

After criticism for their huge loss in the first match of the series, Pakistan Cricket has made a weird decision. They have decided to leave out left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi from the crucial second Test against Bangladesh.

Pakistan’s decision to play with four fast bowlers drew strong criticism from former players. According to the former cricketers, selecting two spinners would have been a more effective strategy.

Head coach Jason Gillespie mentioned that Shaheen understands the “situation,” and that taking a break will allow him to spend valuable time with his family.

“We had a good conversation with him and he fully understands we are looking at the best combination for this game and the last few weeks have been interesting for him with fatherhood and other things, this break will allow him to spend time with his family.”

The former Australian fast bowler said that Shaheen is training with Azhar Mahmood to improve his effectiveness. The management is eager to see him perform at his peak since there is a lot of cricket ahead.

Shaheen Afridi has played just six Tests since July 2022, owing to a knee injury. He was rested for the final Test against Australia at Sydney in January this year.

Since July 2022, Shaheen has appeared in just six Test matches due to a knee injury. Additionally, he was given a break for the final Test against Australia in Sydney last January.
