Former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan joined LSG as their new mentor for the 2025 Indian Premier League season, taking over the role from Gautam Gambhir.
On Wednesday, August 28, LSG revealed their decision on social media after holding a press conference. During the event, franchise owner Sanjeev Goenka stated that Zaheer would oversee the players’ progress and development.
The mentor position at LSG has been open since Gautam Gambhir left for KKR before the 2024 IPL season. The former Indian batsman, along with coach Andy Flower, led the team to two consecutive IPL playoffs.
Zaheer Khan is considered one of India’s best fast bowlers in cricket history. With a career lasting over twenty years, he has shown great talent and commitment to the sport, both as a player and as a coach.
Zaheer Khan had a great IPL career, playing for teams like Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Daredevils. In 2017, at age 38, he became the 10th bowler to reach 100 wickets in the IPL. His economy rate of 7.58 over 100 matches shows his class.
