Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shared his thoughts on Jasprit Bumrah’s claim of being the ‘fittest cricketer’. When Bumrah was recently asked to name the fittest player in the Indian team, many expected him to say Virat Kohli, but Bumrah picked himself instead.
Bumrah explained his choice by pointing out that being a fast bowler demands immense physical and mental strength, as they must work extremely hard, especially in intense heat.
In the event, Bumrah said, “I know the answer you are searching for, but I would like to say my name because I am a fast bowler.”
Since then, Jasprit Bumrah has come under criticism, especially from Virat Kohli’s fans. Some have openly ridiculed his remark. Considering Kohli’s well-known status as one of the world’s fittest cricketers, Bumrah’s comment didn’t go over well with Kohli’s followers.
In a recent video with sports journalist Vimal Kumar, Ashwin was questioned about Bumrah’s latest comment. He commended Bumrah for his dedication and resilience, particularly for bowling in challenging heat, and referred to him as the “Kohinoor diamond” of Indian cricket.
“Jasprit Bumrah is a fast bowler. He bowls in so much heat and works so hard. Bumrah Indian cricket ka crowned jewel hai, Indian cricket ka kohinoor diamond hai Jasprit Bumrah (He is a crowned jewel of Indian cricket, he is the Kohinoor diamond of Indian cricket). Just let him say what he wants to say,” Ashwin said.
Since returning from injury in 2023, Jasprit Bumrah has been outstanding for India across all formats. In every tournament he has participated in, Bumrah has played a crucial role in India’s achievements. He also played a key role in helping India win the T20 World Cup 2024 and was named Player of the Tournament for his remarkable performances.
“Is there any bowler who has been so big after Kapil Dev? Jasprit Bumrah has come and is winning matches for his country. Virat Kohli is a big cricketer. How can you ask a question to a player and then decide the answer yourself? Then you should not even ask the question,” he argued.
