Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are Pakistan’s most experienced players and have done well in white-ball cricket. However, their T20 batting style has faced criticism. After opening with them for years, Pakistan changed their opening pair in the T20 series against New Zealand.
With Babar back as captain and Mohammad Hafeez leaving, Pakistan reunited their most trusted pair. Recently, former India cricketer and now renowned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar compared them to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Kohli and Sharma opened the batting for India in their first game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 against Ireland in New York. However, the experiment didn’t work as Kohli scored only 1 run.
While talking to Star Sports, Babar Azam said, “Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Pakistan has gone in with experienced players like India in the T20 World Cup.”
In their latest game against the USA, Babar and Rizwan only scored 9 runs for the first wicket. Rizwan got out after making 9 runs, while Babar scored 44 runs.
In the match between Pakistan and the USA, the hosts played outstanding cricket and beat Pakistan in the super over.
