Team India has won the T20 World Cup 2024 beating South Africa by seven runs in the tournament’s final. The match was played at the Kensington Oval, Barbados.
In this match, the Indian captain won the toss and elected to bowl first. Batting first, India put on a target of 177 runs at the loss of seven wickets. For India, star Indian batter Virat Kohli scored the maximum 76 runs off 59 balls. Apart from Kohli, Axar Patel contributed 47 runs off 31 balls.
The Proteas needed 26 runs from 24 balls to reach 177, but when Heinrich Klaasen was out for 52 from 27 balls, the game shifted in India’s favor.
Arshdeep Singh gave away only four runs in the second-last over, leaving Hardik Pandya to defend 16 runs in the final over.
While chasing the target of 177 runs, South Africa lost two wickets on 12 runs. After their dismissal, Quinton de Kock(39) and Tristan Stubbs(31) took the game ahead for South Africa. In the last over, Heinrich Klaasen(52) and David Miller got 21 runs but they did not take South Africa home.
For India, Hardik Pandya got three wickets. Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah got two wickets each. Apart from these bowlers Axar Patel also got one wicket in his kitty.
David Miller was caught by Suryakumar Yadav at long-off for 21 on the first ball, and India won by seven runs.
This is the second time India has won the T20 World Cup. They first lifted the trophy in 2007 when team India lifted the World Cup under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.
