Shardul Thakur Admitted To Hospital, Here Is The Reason

India’s all-rounder Shardul Thakur was taken to the hospital after the second day of the ongoing Irani Cup match between Mumbai and the Rest of India. Despite having a fever, Thakur still went on to bat for his team at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Shardul Thakur made 36 runs from 59 balls, helping Mumbai go past 500 runs. He hit four fours and one six before Saransh Jain got him out in the last over of the day. Due to his health issues, Thakur took several breaks during his time at the crease and was regularly checked by the team’s medical staff.

As reported by the Indian Express, Thakur will stay in the hospital for a day, and the doctors will decide whether he can take part in the rest of the match.

“He was unwell and had a high fever throughout the day. This was the reason why he batted late in the innings. Shardul Thakur slept in the dressing room after taking medicine. He wanted to bat, and we got his blood test done for malaria and dengue. The results are awaited. Till then, he will remain at the hospital,” a source told The Indian Express.

Shardul recently came back to competitive cricket after having foot surgery in London on June 12. His last game was for Chennai Super Kings in the 2024 Indian Premier League.

Shardul is not likely to play in the home Test matches, but he might be considered for the five-match series against Australia which is slated to play from November.

“I have been part of the Indian team for eight years, but I haven’t played a lot of games for the country. However, I have given my best in the limited opportunities,” he had said.
