Team India is set to return to the eagerly anticipated red-ball format from the two-match Test series against Bangladesh followed by the T20I series. The first match between both teams will be played from September 19, in Chennai. In these matches, the legendary all-rounder of Bangladesh Shakib al Hasan will look to grab some historic records on his name.

Shakib has a golden opportunity to join the elite list of all-rounders comprising Ian Botham, Kapil Dev, Jacques Kallis, and Daniel Vittori who have 4000 Test runs and 250 wickets in the longest format of the game. Bangladesh will play two Tests against India and if Shakib manages to get eight wickets, he will join this elite list.

In 69 Tests, Shakib has scored 4543 runs with an average of 38.50. At the same time, he has picked 242 wickets at an economy rate of 2.94.

With his vast experience, Shakib is expected to perform well in the tough conditions of India. However, he hasn’t been in great form with the bat lately, including a recent poor showing for Surrey in their County Championship game against Somerset.

Bangladesh selector Hannan Sarkar said that Shakib is not in rhythm with his batting.

“Shakib is not in rhythm. Form is very important, and he isn’t in form. But in Test cricket, you get time to return to form. In T20Is and ODIs, you don’t get enough time as batters need to get on with it quickly. I believe that given the stature of Shakib as a player, it’s only a matter of time before he gets back to form,” Sarkar said in a press conference.
