Indian captain Rohit Sharma talked about Rishabh Pant’s injury and mentioned that the left-handed batsman got hit on the same knee on the second day of the first Test against New Zealand. He also shared that Pant had surgery in 2023. The Delhi-based player had hurt his knee during the Bengaluru Test and now he is doubtful for his participation in the game.

After Rishabh Pant got injured by hitting on the knee, he was seen leaving the field on the second day of India’s first Test against New Zealand on October 17. The incident occurred during the evening session when all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja bowled a flat delivery to Devon Conway, but the New Zealand batter missed it. Pant couldn’t collect the ball, and it struck him on his right knee.

Right after getting injured, the Indian team’s physio came onto the field to monitor and help Pant. Earlier, the wicket-keeper batter had returned to the Indian team after surviving a serious car accident in December 2022.

Rohit Sharma’s Update On Rishabh Pant’s Injury

While talking to the media after the match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma said, “Unfortunately, the knee. The ball went and hit straight on his knee cap, the leg which he had surgery on. So, he has got a little bit of swelling on it. The muscles are a bit tender at this point of time. It’s a precautionary measure.”

“We don’t want to take any risks. Rishabh did not want to take a risk. He has gone through a massive surgery on that particular leg. That was the reason for him to go inside. Hopefully, tonight he can recover and we will see him back on the field tomorrow,” Rohit added.
