India and New Zealand are taking against each other in the first match of the three-match Test series being played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. After a poor batting performance in the first innings, the Indian team made a strong comeback in the second innings. During this, the former Indian head coach and renowned commentator Ravi Shastri said something in the commentary box that has caused a lot of debate.
Ravi Shashtri is once again in the limelight of the media and this time for a controversial remark. While commentating on the Bengaluru Test, he said some things about a fan eating ice cream, which has angered many people. Many are showing their frustration with Shastri on social media. His remarks about the fans enjoying ice cream during the match did not go down well with the crowd.
During the match, the fan was seen eating ice cream in the dugout, and watching him eat the the ice-cream Shastri said, “Big bloke, Big unit hiding the ice cream cone. Where is the ice cream boy.”
While commenting along with Shastri, legendary Sunil Gavaskar added, “He is hiding it, might someone in his family asked him not to have ice-cream.”
Shastri again commented, “And here comes the cone again. The ice cream is missing, but who’s standing out? That’s a big guy. It’s really hot here.”
The comments by Shastri are not being picked by the fans in the right way and fans are now bashing the former Indian all-rounder as they think it is physical abuse for someone.
A fan wrote, “You don’t need to make fun of anyone on Live Telecast, let him enjoy his ice-cream.”
Another fan wrote, “This is not funny, Ravi Shastri; it’s actually disgusting. You’re not just making fun of someone’s body, but you might also be mocking someone’s illness, and that too on a global platform.”
Another fan wrote, “Disgusting from @RaviShastriOfc … Fat shaming someone on live television is not cool!.”
In the match, after getting India out for only 46 runs, New Zealand scored 402 runs in their first innings. Rachin Ravindra had an excellent performance with 134 runs, while Devon Conway scored 91 runs. Tim Southee also contributed 65 runs. For India, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets each, Mohammad Siraj took two wickets, and Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin took one wicket each.
