Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin recently appeared on a show hosted by well-known cricket journalist Vimal Kumar and he spoke out of heart about his cricket journey throughout the years.
As he prepares for the 10 upcoming Tests, Ashwin thanked former Indian cricket stars Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh. He said that both the former Indian spinners played a vital role in bringing success to Ashwin’s career.
R Ashwin asserted, “Mai lucky hu (I am lucky). What (legacy) Anil bhai and Harbhajan left, I have learnt from that. Whatever I am doing today is because of them. What I am doing is part of the journey.”
He also chuckled at the constant chatter about cricketers’ high earnings in the Indian Premier League. Ashwin thought it was amusing that people overlook inflation, which impacts their future income.
Ashwin said, “When people say they (cricketers) are making so much in the IPL, this and that, mai soch kar hasta hu (I laugh thinking about it). If the IPL happens in 2040, will the salary be the same as it is today? The world will stride forward.”
Ashwin is now ranked second among all-rounders in the ICC men’s rankings. He is looking forward to the upcoming Test series which will start against Bangladesh in a few weeks.
