England fast bowler Gus Atkinson has been rested for the upcoming ODI series against Australia. The ECB has announced that Olly Stone will take his place. England will play three T20s and a five-match ODI series against Australia which will start on September 19 at Trent Bridge.

Atkinson has taken 11 wickets in nine ODIs for England with an average of 35.27 and was initially included in the squad announced earlier this month. His last ODI was against the West Indies during England’s 2023 Caribbean tour. Although he played an important role in England’s 2-1 Test series win over Sri Lanka.

Olly Stone has been added to the ODI squad to replace Atkinson. Stone has played eight ODIs for England, taking eight wickets. He made his ODI debut in 2018 during England’s tour of Sri Lanka and has also played against Australia and South Africa, with his most recent match in January 2023.

Stone shone in the recent Test series against Sri Lanka, claiming seven wickets in the second and third Tests, securing his position in the national team. The England ODI squad captained by Jos Buttler is set to aim for a strong showing against Australia.
