Former Indian cricketer and one of the legends of the Indian Premier League, Suresh Raina has discussed the possibility of MS Dhoni playing in the IPL 2025.
There are rumors that Dhoni might retire from the league because of injuries. The experienced player mentioned he would decide on his future after seeing the new retention rules by the BCCI.
MS Dhoni has been dealing with injuries for the last two seasons. However, Raina noted that Dhoni performed well with the bat during the 17th season of the IPL. He said that the presence of MS Dhoni will help Ruturaj Gaikwad to become more prominent as captain of the side.
While talking to Sports Tak, Raina said, “I want MS Dhoni to play in IPL 2025, considering his impressive display in the previous season. I feel Ruturaj Gaikwad needs guidance for another season, as his captaincy was not up to the mark in several games.”
He further added, “The loss against RCB saw him struggling as a leader. However, he also showed maturity and did a reasonably good job and batted well as well.”
Before the IPL 2024 began, Dhoni gave the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad. CSK didn’t reach the playoffs and ended up fifth in the standings. Dhoni scored 161 runs from 73 balls in the total innings he played during the tournament.
