Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has yet to confirm whether he will retire or continue playing in the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Although it was believed that MS Dhoni will say goodbye to IPL after 2024 he has not made any official announcement. Not only this, the IPL retention rule has also been revamped which will allow MS Dhoni to participate in the tournament as an uncapped player. Even CSK officials remain in the dark about Dhoni’s decision, though an announcement is expected soon, as the retention deadline is 31st October.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, MS Dhoni is scheduled to meet with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) officials in Mumbai in mid-October to inform them of his decision regarding his future. Dhoni has been dealing with a persistent knee issue, which he frequently had to strap during or after matches.
CSK can retain MS Dhoni for a minimal fee of Rs 4 crore, as he now falls under the uncapped player category. All IPL franchises are required to submit their retention lists by October 31.
For capped players, there are three salary categories: Rs 18 crore, Rs 14 crore, and Rs 11 crore. Starting from IPL 2025, players will also receive a match fee of Rs 7.5 lakh for each game.
