KL Rahul Will Captain LSG In IPL 2025 Or Not? Sanjiv Goenka Comes With Surprising Answer

LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka has talked about the future of KL Rahul with the team. He said that it will only be decided once BCCI comes up with its new retention rule. Rahul has been the captain of LSG for the last three years, leading them to the playoffs in 2022 and 2023. However, the team underperformed in the 17th season. During IPL 2024, Goenka criticized KL Rahul publicly after the team lost badly to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

There were rumors that the star Indian batter might leave the team. However, after the owner and the captain recently met in Kolkata, fans now think that KL Rahul will stay with the team.

Goenka told PTI that he was surprised by the attention their meeting received, as he has been meeting Rahul for several years. The Lucknow owner also said that Rahul is like family to him.

While announcing Zaheer Khan as the new mentor, Goenka said, “I have been meeting KL Rahul over the last three years. I was a little surprised that our meeting got so much coverage. We haven’t taken any call on the retention of the players as we are waiting for the rules.”

He further added, “Rahul has been like a family since 2022. He has been magnificent for us and will always remain an integral part of the team.”

While talking about the future of KL Rahul with the team, Goenka said, “We can decide by November. Let the policies come out. We haven’t given it a thought yet. We don’t know how many players will be allowed to remain with the teams.”

“We don’t want to take a call now as it could impact us in the future. It has to be a well-thought-out decision.”

“Let the BCCI announce the policy first, and then there will be discussions with the team management.”
