Pakistan’s star fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has sustained a knee injury just two weeks ahead of the first Test in the three-match series against England.

Shaheen Afridi injured his knee in the recent Champions One-Day Cup 2024 match between the Lions and the Dolphins on September 22. The Lions, under Afridi’s captaincy, were defeated by the Dolphins by 16 runs, in the game played at Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.

The Lions fell short in their chase of a tough target of 327 runs, finishing with 310 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 50 overs during the recent one-day match.

In a key moment, the Lions required 100 runs in the last ten overs with four wickets left. Unfortunately, Shaheen Afridi was hit on the left knee by a delivery from Faheem Ashraf and had to leave the field. He returned after the next wicket fell in the 45th over.

The star Pakistani pacer faced challenges in recent months. During the T20 World Cup, Afridi claimed five wickets in four matches, but Pakistan could not make it into the next stage of the tournament. In the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh at home, he only took two wickets.

Pakistan is scheduled to host a three-match Test series against England beginning on October 7. The first Test will be held at Multan Cricket Stadium, followed by the second Test in Multan from October 15 to 19. The series will wrap up with the final Test at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on October 24.
