Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir has provided insights into the decision to include off-spin all-rounder Washington Sundar in the squad for the upcoming second Test match against New Zealand. Scheduled to take place at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune starting Thursday, November 24, this match is crucial for India following their loss in the first Test.

Gambhir emphasized that the final playing XI is yet to be decided, but he believes that Washington Sundar is a valuable addition to the team. The selectors opted to bring Sundar on board to address the challenge posed by New Zealand’s batting lineup, which features many left-handed batsmen. During a recent press conference, Gambhir explained, “With New Zealand having so many left-handers, we wanted someone who can take the ball away from them. He’s a good option to have.”

In the previous Test held at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, India faced defeat by eight wickets. The Indian batters struggled significantly in the first innings, with only Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal reaching double figures. The batting order faltered after opting to bat first in challenging overcast conditions.

However, the second innings saw a remarkable turnaround, thanks to outstanding performances from Sarfaraz Khan, who scored 150 runs, and Rishabh Pant, who contributed 99 runs. Despite their efforts, New Zealand ultimately claimed victory.

As fans speculate on the potential changes to the team, Washington Sundar’s inclusion is viewed as a strategic move by the coaching staff. With the match approaching, all eyes will be on the playing XI announcement and how Gambhir’s team adapts to New Zealand’s strengths.

The second Test against New Zealand is set to be a crucial match for Team India, and with Gambhir at the helm, there is hope for a strong comeback. Stay tuned for updates as the team prepares for this important clash.
