The former Indian middle-order batter Suresh Raina has asserted that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should have played in the Duleep Trophy 2024. He believes that participating in this domestic tournament would have helped them for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh.
Raina also acknowledged that players need to spend time with their families. He reflected that Kohli and Sharma likely know what they need to do to prepare for the upcoming home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand.
While speaking to Sports Tak, Raina said, “They should have played as the team hasn’t played red-ball cricket for a long time. If you are heading into a busy home season, you need practice with the red ball. I think they are mature enough, and they know what needs to be done as players. Sometimes family time becomes very important.”
The 17th season of the Duleep Trophy is set to begin on September 5. In this event, several top Indian players are included in four different teams.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma and batter Virat Kohli are set to make their comeback in the first Test against Bangladesh on September 19. India will then clash against New Zealand in the three-match Test series and then they will have a mega clash against the Australians for the famous Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
