According to a recent report, the England Cricket Board(ECB) is planning to refrain its players from participating in the different T20 leagues around the world. However, the Indian Premier League is the only exception and the Telegraph reports that the ECB is not going to put any kind of objection for BCCI’s tournament.
The report reveals that the decision was taken to improve the quality of domestic cricket within the country. In recent years, world cricket has seen various T20 leagues flourishing around the corner.
The report mentioned that the board will not give no-objection certificates (NOCs) to franchise leagues that overlap with the domestic season. This means that the PSL, scheduled from April to May, will likely miss some top English players.
The decision might cause problems as players could decide to play in franchise leagues instead of sticking to their contracts with the board.
The report also said that players who are no longer part of first-class cricket won’t be allowed to skip county cricket. Players with only white-ball contracts can play in franchise leagues, but only if the leagues are outside the domestic white-ball season.
The board wants to stop players from jumping between leagues after their teams are knocked out and to make sure they are available for domestic competitions like the T20 Blast and The Hundred.
Reports also say that players will be banned from playing in leagues that are linked to corruption.
As per the Telegraph, ECB chief executive Richard Gould said, “We need to protect the integrity of our sport and the strength of our competitions in England and Wales as well.”
