The Indian cricket team is all set to play the infamous Border-Gavaskar trophy against Australia which is a five-match Test series.
The 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy will begin on November 22 in Perth, with the following four matches scheduled in Adelaide (day/night), Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney. India has won the last two Test series in Australia and aims to make it three in a row this year. However, this will be a tough challenge, as Australia is a strong team and currently holds the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test rankings.
Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane were key players for India in their last two Test series in Australia. However, they are not currently in the Test squad and are unlikely to be selected for the upcoming tour of Australia.
While having a conversation with Cricbuzz for a show called HeyCB with DK, the former Indian wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik picked his choices for the replacement of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. He said that Shubman Gill and Sarfaraz Khan are currently the two players who can replace these Test legends.
“Shubman Gill and Sarfaraz Khan. Both of those batters have done really well against England in the home series that recently happened at the start of the year. I have a feeling both of them will definitely be on that flight to Australia and will be trying to do their best. We will know if they’re able to replace both Ajinkya and Pujji (Pujara). Big shoes to fill, but they have the quality and calibre in them,” Karthik said.
Gill was a member of the Indian team that won the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. He was India’s top scorer in the second innings of the Brisbane Test, where India chased down 328 runs on the last day and got a historic win by three wickets
