Bizzare: Tim Southee surpasses Virender Sehwag record of hitting most sixes in Test cricket

New Zealand experienced fast bowler Tim Southee made history in the first Test between India and New Zealand while batting for his team. Southee equaled the record of the former Indian opener Virender Sehwag for hitting more sixes in Test cricket. Southee achieved this milestone during his eighth-wicket partnership with Rachin Ravindra in the first Test against India in Bengaluru.

Southee came out to bat when New Zealand was at 233 for 7. He and Rachin Ravindra added 58 runs in the last four overs before lunch, where Southee stayed not out on 49 from 50 balls.

In the first innings, Southee broke Virender Sehwag’s record for most sixes in Test cricket. He hit his 91st six, matching Sehwag’s total, who hit 91 sixes in 104 Test matches. Southee then hit his 92nd six in Bengaluru, going past Sehwag’s record. With this, he also surpassed the current Indian captain Rohit Sharma who has 87 sixes in 62 Tests.

In the ongoing match in Bengaluru, the first Test of the series started poorly for India. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, India’s batting lineup struggled. Only Rishabh Pant scored more than 20 runs, while five batters got out without scoring any runs.

In the first innings, India was bowled out for a very low score of 46 runs. New Zealand responded with strong batting, putting pressure on India.

By the end of Day 2, New Zealand had scored 180 runs and lost three wickets. Devon Conway made 91 runs, and Rachin Ravindra scored a century, while Tim Southee also played well. By the time lunch came on Day 3, New Zealand had reached 345 runs and lost seven wickets.
