The limited-over captain for England Jos Buttler is still recovering from an injury and won’t be returning to play anytime soon. He is set to miss Lancashire’s T20 Blast quarter-final against Sussex on Wednesday, September 4. He played his last game during England’s semi-final defeat to India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Buttler is struggling with an injury that kept him out of The Hundred for the Manchester Originals. However, he was selected for England’s white-ball teams for the home series against Australia in September.
Lancashire’s head coach Dale Benkenstein said on BBC Radio that Buttler will not be available to play the quarter-final.
The coach said, “Jos Buttler was recovering, but unfortunately, he tweaked it again. He is not only out of our matches, but I think he will not be able to play international contests. He was looking forward to our matches.”
Regarding the return of Buttler England will decide by September 8. He isn’t likely to be the wicketkeeper against Australia, which will eventually decrease his his workload. The white-ball series between England and Australia begins on September 11.
Currently, England doesn’t have an official vice-captain for their ODIs and T20Is. If Buttler doesn’t recover in time, Sam Curran and Phil Salt are the leading candidates to take over as skipper of the side.
